In 2007  I decided I was tired of being overweight and unhealthy as I had been for most of my life. I joined Weight Watchers and radically changed the way I ate, first focusing on portion control and incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my diet. Throughout this transition I started looking food differently – considering what it could do for me and how it made me feel, as opposed to just eating whatever tasted good. That being said, I still want my food to taste good, and I attempt to make healthy, delicious, whole food based meals whenever possible. As I started losing weight and eventually focused on maintaining a 45 pound weight loss, I decreased my meat intake, decreased my dairy intake and today eat a vegetable centric, whole foods based diet.

While I was changing my diet, I also started running, signing up for my first 5k and eventually a half marathon at the urging of a friend.

What started out as a love/hate relationship (loved what it did for weight loss, hated how hard it was for me to run more than 2 or 3 miles) became a necessity. Today after running 7 half marathons and two full marathons I cannot imagine my life without it – but I don’t discriminate when it comes to sweat. My favorites are running, spinning, Crossfit and yoga – but honestly I’m happy as long as I’m sweating nearly every day.

This blog is a place to share what living well means to me. Living well is a choice. For me it is making the choice every morning to embrace the day as an new opportunity. My idea of living well includes lots of sweating and a few rest days, tons of water and a few beers, plenty of veggies and just as much peanut butter.

Please remember that this is my perspective on my life and my choices – it’s what works (or doesn’t work) for me, which may or may not work for you. I am not a health or fitness professional or expert!
